Among the various variants of poker that are played around the world some variants have emerged to be more popular than others. One such variant is 7 card stud poker. This game is home to most land-based or online casinos. However, the most popular variant of poker is still Texas hold’em poker, which stands out with its element of glamor. The fundamentals of all these alternatives are still more or less the same. The difference comes in the game. And so it is obvious that 7 card stud poker is just as exciting as its more popular siblings. Let’s take a look at its fundamentals.
The card values remain the same as in other similar games, such as 5-card stud poker. Cards 2 to 10 are valued according to the numbers they represent. Jack, Queen, King, and Ace are valued higher than the numbered cards, in increasing order. Ace is also used as the lowest value card while the stairs are being played.
As the players deal cards from them, they try to make the best hand. These hands are valued in the following order. 1 Pair <2 Pair <3 of a Kind <Straight <Flush <Full House <4 of a Kind <Flush <Royal Flush. Also in this case, nothing is different compared to other variants. However, what makes the hand is more difficult than in Texas hold’em poker, as the cards that will be used to make this change are only the cards dealt. Community cards are used in this game.
Now let’s take a look at the game. This is what makes 7 card stud poker different from the other variants. The game begins with the first bet which is called ‘a priori’. In this part, all the players at the table make their bet, who come together to make the pot. The next step is to deal with both faces of the cards and a face up card. The card that is dealt face up is called the door card. After the players have had a look at their cards and have done their odds calculations, another round of betting begins. The first bet is on the player, whose card gate is of lesser value. Each player, in this and the following betting rounds, can increase the amount of their bet, which is called “raising” or can leave the box where it is called “fold”.
After each round of betting, the cards are dealt to all the players one by one. The steps on which these cards are distributed are called ‘Forth Street’, ‘Fifth Street’, ‘Sixth Street’ and ‘River’. The river card is the last card to be dealt and after this comes the final round of betting. Once the bets are carried out the final step is reached. This is the stage where all players show their hands. This step is called “showdown.” The player with the highest hand gains value. If two players have hands of the same value, then the values of the cards are used to decide the winner. Winning players get the entire pot which, as I said before, is the total of bets made by all players during the match.
Poker, as people know it, is a game that involves both luck and skill. A player cannot master luck, as he cannot. But certainly the skills can be mastered and a dedicated player can win the best of pots.
